Anthony Johnson Selected As Connecticut 6 Player Of The Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Anthony Johnson averaged 16.3 points and 7.7 rebounds to help the Fairfield University men's basketball team post a 2-1 week.

The center tallied a career-high 27 points in Sunday's win over Manhattan, connecting on 10 of 12 field goal attempts and securing eight rebounds in the 88-85 win. Johnson also blocked three shots and picked up a steal and an assist. Johnson reached double figures with 14 points in a 65-60 victory over Loyola College, shooting 56 percent from the floor. He also collected eight rebounds with four blocks and two steals in the victory. He opened the week wtih eight points and seven rebounds in a loss at Niagara University on January 4.

Johnson is currently averaging 15.0 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, both of which place among the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC leaders). He is also registering 2.4 blocks per game which is best among all MAAC student-athletes. He is shooting 49.5 percent from the floor.

The Stags, under head coach Ed Cooley, bring a 12-4 overall record into this week's action. Fairfield currently stands second in the MAAC standings with a 5-1 conference mark. The team hosts first-place Siena College on Saturday at 4 pm before finishing its four-game home stand against Canisius on January 18.
